ROARIN' Twenties

The time to mold your future is now!

People seem to think that their lives begin when they are 30+ with a family and a stable job. However, what they fail to realize is that it takes your “Twenties” to get to where you want/need to be! Everyone needs to know that your “Twenties” are important and it is the time for everyone to start molding their future!  I will use my blog mainly to market young adults who are in their “Twenties” and help them promote their business, organization, idea or celebrate their success!! I WANT TO HEAR YOU ROAR!!  I will post a profile every two week about someone in their “Twenties” to help them gain more visibility and give them the recognition they deserve. I will be there to make announcements based upon their work and to attend any event they may be affiliated with. I will basically shadow them along the way as they work to better their future! Not only will I market/ talk about others and their success, but I will also post about myself and talk about life lessons I have learned, as I age through my "Twenties"!

Michael Seaberry is a PhD student at Louisiana State University. He is originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana and he attended Xavier University in New Orleans for his undergrad. Michael initially wanted to be a doctor. He had received a BS in Science and Biology and soon after made his way to medical school. During this time he began to take humanities classes and began to realize he didn't want to be a doctor. Michael was more interested in social Issues. Now Michael is attending LSU, where he recently received a Master of Arts in Education and is currently working on getting his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Research, & Counseling with a concentration of Higher Education Administration. With his studies, he mainly focuses on black male masculinity and racial identity formation.

As a doctoral student, Michael is applying theories and philosophy to his work concerning social justice. Everyday it is his job to do research based upon social justice and racial issues and it tends to stress him out.  Also, it leaves him in pain to know and see that these problems are still going on as we speak. Last month in Baton Rouge, there was a police brutality situation that involved a man named Alton Sterling as the victim. Michael was so hurt by this that he was looking for outlet. This outlet was for him and others for healing through these incidents. He needed a way to vent.

Michael Seaberry started a blog called "Leaves Burn Slow". He named it this because he feels that "leaves" are all of the racial issues and situations that are surrounding our black community and they "burn slow" because we cant just get rid of the problem all at once. Actions must be taken one at a time.  Within this blog, Michael writes Poems. All of his poems basically describe and share how he feels as he attempts to handle the issues that are happening around us. Michael calls his blog "A place to find healing for those who seek to heal others in unjust systems". He definitely wants to reach out to others and help them in anyway that he can.

Writing has always been a thing for Michael. He feels there is no better way to fully get your point across. Michael has written many articles and has successfully published 2 stories. He feels that his most successful one is "Do Not Engage Y'all!" Training and Preparing Our Black Students for Battle". This was a story about teaching people how to protest. Times are different and our youth are not fully prepared to take on these massive protests. People get so emotional about the racial issues in our world and try to take into their own hands. However, they don't recognize the possible consequences of their actions.

Michael really wants his blog to take off. So far Michael has been recognized by Unapologetically Black for his poem "If I was to die by the hand of the police". He hopes to gain more recognition for his work. His plan is to turn his blog into a book, which will be filled with his poem. Also, he will explain his journey while writing the blog. Michael soon wants to start performing his poems at certain venues. Michael just wants to be exposed and his ROAR deserves to be heard.
